Instructor at Arms Benjamin Bowles
Instructor Benjamin Bowles began fencing at Humboldt State University in Northern California through Martinez Academy of Arms Provost Antone Blair in 2005. Through Mr. Blair, Benjamin met Maestro Ramon Martinez and Maestro Jeannette Acosta Martinez, and he began training that same year under their tutelage with multiple trips to their New York salle and continuing ever since.
During his career at Humboldt State University Benjamin participated with the HSU Fencing Club and held the offices of Armourer and teacher’s assistant for multiple years, as well as Secretary and President. He was also a founding architect of the Redwood Coast Assault of Arms in 2008, an annual Association for Historical Fencing tournament at HSU.
Upon graduation with a Bachelors of the Arts in English in 2009, Benjamin established Benjamin Arms to manufacture high-quality, American-made classical fencing equipment. Entering into an apprenticeship under Maestro Ramon Martinez, Benjamin has been taught the traditional assembly techniques, proper handling, care, and maintenance of multiple weapon types. His armouring knowledge and expertise continues expanding in tandem with his catalogue offerings.
In the summer of 2013 Benjamin earned the rank of Instructor in French Foil through the Academy. With his instructorship and his business he aspires to continue building a life serving the art and science of fencing.
